Reservations

  1. Reserve campsite in advance, if possible

Packing - Put food on the bottom (you'll need other items first)

  1. Backpack, daypack, or fanny pack
  2. Bags - Tent bag, grocery bags, etc.
  3. Cardboard boxes if needed
  4. Ice Chests
  5. 5 gallon bucket or similar container.

Lighting - Check batteries!

  1. Maglight, Flashlight - The larger, the better.
  2. Gas lantern (and/or electric)
  3. BIC lighter(s), one always gets wet and won't light
  4. Matches (preferably water proof)
  5. Spare batteries and bulbs
  6. Spare lantern fuel and mantles

Shelter/Bedding

  1. Sleeping bag/Cots
  2. Space Blanket
  3. Ground Cloth - Tarp for big tents
  4. Mattress or pad - Inflator for air mattress
  5. Pillow
  6. Tent
  7. Camp axe or hammer to pound tent stakes

Medical

  1. Sunscreen
  2. Bug Repellent - Spray, Citronella Candle, etc.
  3. Poison Oak remedies -
  4. Special soap, antihistamine creams.
  5. Allerest
  6. Tylenol, Advil, Aspirin
  7. Alka Seltzer, Maalox, Tums
  8. Antibiotics - Whatever you need.
        Micatin for fungus, for example.
  9. Tweezers for splinters & ticks.
  10. Antiseptic, Band-Aids and bandages.
  11. First Aid Kit (may include all the above items)

Cleaning & Personal Items

  1. Bar or bottled soap
  2. Washcloth
  3. Pre-moistened Towelettes
  4. Shampoo
  5. Toothpaste & toothbrush
  6. Comb or hair brush
  7. Tampons/pads
  8. Razor
  9. Towel
  10. Toilet Paper
  11. Whisk broom to clean table and tent site

Miscellaneous

  1. Small shovel
  2. Swiss Army knife
  3. Compass and Map
  4. Fishing pole and gear (+ license & bait!)
  5. Duct tape &/or electrical tape
  6. Safety pins
  7. Cellular phone w/extra battery and car adapter
  8. Camera w/good battery and extra film/batteries
  9. Camcorder w/good battery and extra tapes
  10. Books, radio, cards, games, toys, Bible, etc.
  11. MONEY, credit card, ID

Clothing

  1. Hat
  2. Sleeping cap
  3. Bandanna
  4. Jacket - As weather dictates. Eskimo style, mackintosh, windbreaker, etc.
  5. Poncho - Doubles as emergency tent/lean-to.
  6. Pants/Overalls, with belt
  7. Underwear - 2
  8. Shirt - 2 or 3 (one light, one flannel)
  9. Shoes, shower shoes, HIKING BOOTS
  10. Socks - 2 pair
  11. Work gloves & warm mittens/gloves
  12. Swim suit

Cooking

  1. Stove with fuel & lighters, (take a couple of lighters, if you only have one it will invariably get lost or fall into a bucket or creek)
  2. Newspapers for lighting a campfire
  3. Firewood
  4. Charcoal or wood & Grill for BBQ.
  5. Frying Pan - Nonstick w/plastic spatula is nice.
  6. Cooking skewers (for hot dogs, s'mores, etc.)
  7. Pot or sauce pan - Big enough to cook noodles for all. With lid.
  8. Can opener - If you have canned goods.
  9. Thermos
  10. Tongs, Spatulas, Stirring/Serving Spoons
  11. Coffee maker & filters
  12. Pot lifter and/or pot holders
  13. Wine cork puller for those tres yup trips
  14. Tablecloth

Dishes

Reusable

  1. Plate - Partition tray/plate is nice.
  2. Mug/cup - Sierra Club Cup or Coleman Mountain Mug style
  3. Kitchen knife - Nice to have. In general, carry a pocket knife.
  4. Small mixing bowl
  5. Knife, Fork, Spoon, Spatula
  6. Scrub Pad
  7. Dish Pan

Consumables

  1. Paper towels & napkins
  2. Trash bags
  3. Paper plates, cups, bowls, etc.
  4. Plastic knives, forks, spoons
  5. Ziplock Bags
  6. Aluminum Foil
  7. Dish soap

Water

  1. At least 1/2 gallon per person/day.
    1. Water filters and purifiers if relying on natural water sources.
  2. Water bottle, to carry while hiking

Food & Drink

  1. Pancake Mix - Bisquick, 1/2 cup per person per day (need large skillet)
  2. Cooking Oil - About 1 oz per person per day.
  3. Syrup - About 2 oz per person per day.
  4. Butter - 1/2 stick per person per day.
  5. Malt-o-meal, or Cream of…{wheat, rice, ...}
  6. Oatmeal - Instant single serving packs
  7. Potatoes - 1-2 per person per day. Freeze dried if packing.
  8. Bacon - 2 slices per person per day.
  9. Eggs - 1-2 per person per day, fresh or powdered.
  10. Noodles - Spaghetti, Angel Hair, Ramen, or shells.
  11. Spaghetti Sauce - In jars or dehydrated
  12. Parmesan cheese
  13. Bouillon cubes - Chicken & Vegetable
  14. Rice packages
  15. Soup/Chili - mix or cans
  16. Tuna - Don't forget Mayo, pickles, and onions
  17. Onions, lemons, mushrooms, etc.
  18. Bread - One or two loaves per day if camping with a small group.
  19. Dry condiments - Salt, Pepper, Spices, Sugar
  20. Catsup
  21. Mustard
  22. Mayo - Small jar or portion packs
  23. Salami
  24. Cheese - Cheddar, Swiss
  25. Fruit - Small fruit cups or fresh fruit
  26. Veggies - carrot/celery sticks daily
  27. Taco Stuff - (Meat, seasoning package, olives, lettuce, tortillas, buns)
  28. Cocoa, Coffee, & Teas (don't forget SUGAR!)
  29. Marshmallows, Graham Crackers & Hershey Bars (S'mores)
  30. Peanut Butter & Jelly
  31. Deli meat slices
  32. Hot dogs & buns
  33. Milk, soy milk, juice, soft drinks, etc.
  34. Wine, beer

Baby Items

  1. Baby carrier (Snugglie)
  2. Formula, cereal & strained foods
  3. Distilled water
  4. Hat, sunscreen, insect repellent
  5. Plenty of diapers, wet wipes
